Le rôle du jeune nouveau convient à merveille à Philipp Boë. Il sait faire vivre son personnage et maîtrise parfaitement l'art du comique, pimenté d'épisodes grotesques. Les deux artistes jouent de leur texte avec doigté. Ils n'hésitent pas à le laisser parler en toute sobriété, tout en libérant mimique et gestuelle de leur fonction traditionnelle d'accompagnement de la parole. Ils développent ainsi un jeu remarquablement équilibré. Une performance remarquable dans un cadre modeste, qui brille par sa grande originalité.

This is an inventive and charming piece of theatre. The set consists of a few of cleverly designed nautical furniture which mutate in a flash from lighthouse living quarters into landing jetty and again into a boat tossing in a storm. The course of the relationship of the two men is charted with a minimum of words, but with wonderfully expressive, and often highly comic, use of ropes, juggling, puppets, plastic fish, tin cans, acrobatics and live accordion and clarinet. Perhaps the most remarkable achievement of the production is the pervasive, lyrical atmosphere it maintains. There is a real sense of the fullness of time passing in this isolated world and the compelling power of the sea. As Eddie sits on the jetty in the twilight, dreaming of his lost love, and watching the silhouettes of seals projected beneath him, the roar of the waves fills the auditorium, and we can almost feel the spray on our cheeks.
